CMS sites
CMS (Content Management Systems) sites empower the website owner to update almost anything on the website themselves. Traditionally with websites the user would ask the webmaster to make a change, even when it’s something as simple as a single word! This can take the webmaster anything from 5 minutes to 5 years to update depending on their mood and how bust they are… With a CMS in place you can simply login, select the page to update and modify it in seconds, no waiting and no hassle!
Because CMS hold the content and the design separately it is also possible to quite easily move around or even change the entire website design with very little work. You can even preview a new design without effecting the visible website. Due to the more complex work involved in CMS template design, there are less designs available and cost more to create.
There are a range of different CMS packages available and currently we support Joomla and WordPress.
Joomla
Joomla is an open source project (free) however some people are overwhelmed by the installation and configuration of this web application. We are quite happy to install and configure you a Joomla CMS and can also give training and support on an ongoing basis. Joomla in our opinion has more options and more flexibility then WordPress, however with the current version (1.5) keeping it up to date and secure does require manual work and uploading. We use Joomla on several of our websites (see Portfolio) all currently running Joomla 1.5.
WordPress
WordPress in another open source project (free) project and while maintenance updates and plugin updates are now built in (making it far easier to keep secure), installation still requires someone with technical knowledge to install it. This site is currently running WordPress 3!
